About Us

Situated in the picturesque town of Sedbergh (pronounced sed-bur), and now in the bustling hub of Walthamstow, E17 London, Sedbergh Landscaping Company is dedicated to creating stunning gardens bespoke to you that will provide a haven for yourself and for wildlife year-round. We work hard to provide a professional and tailored service that puts you at the centre of all we do, that is why we offer competitive rates to give you an outstanding garden no matter your gardens size or budget.

'Bog standard' really isn't in our vocabulary, that is why we strive to go the extra mile in creating a stunning garden that is unique to you, giving you something you can't get anywhere else, no matter the size of your garden. That is why we are proud to provide unique, rare and unusual plants, fruit and nut trees that will both thrive in your area and give you something to be smug about when the neighbours pop round.

Ultimately we believe that we should pass the world on to the next generation in a better shape than we found it. That is why we are passionate about both protecting and improving our stunning landscape and environment and this starts, quite literally, on your doorstep, as well. Your gardens are often the most bio diverse habitat for nature and can prove an oasis not just for yourself but also for pollinating insects and wildlife. In the UK our gardens are often the main area where both humans and wildlife interact, lets share this space with them.

We also go to lengths to practice what we preach. We always attempt to source plants and use businesses local to your area where available. We always use peat free soil and replace any tree we cut down by planting new ones on our fields. Speaking of which we are lucky enough to own two fields in the Yorkshire Dales dedicated to Giving Back to Nature, both by enhancing the area's biodiversity by planting native wildflowers, heritage fruit trees and creating ponds, and planting native trees to offset our carbon footprint. No middle men or phantom forests here, it is ours, we are directly responsible for planting and caring for our small slices of paradise.

We also do our best to recycle parts of trees that have come down in storms or have had to be felled due to disease or through safety issues in Cumbria, North Lancashire and Yorkshire by creating wood mulch and wood piles for insects as well as charcuterie boards, and garden furniture for our designs found via our Online Shop.

About Me

Somewhat of a global nomad

Jonathan Taylor

Founder and Garden Designer

Somewhat of a global nomad, my passion for gardening has accompanied me everywhere. Born in Edinburgh, growing up in the Middle East, studying history, international relations and the Arabic language, working in both London and Sedbergh – from cacti and succulents, overcrowded balconies of herbs and flowers, to the great beech and oak trees starkly distinct in the Cumbrian Winter – plants to me are a living architecture, an ever-changing sculpture, a unique opportunity to connect with nature and one another.

The human-environment interactions I have encountered along the way have inspired my passion, and the vast, intuitive and creative horticultural knowledge these encounters have imparted on me have cumulated into Sedbergh Landscaping Company.

I strongly believe that bringing us into contact with nature has never been more needed in terms of the environment and climate change, and never more necessary for mental health in an intense, challenging and changing world. The potential significance of gardens as a resource for wildlife, and source of our enjoyment, is clear and profound, and we can all play a part in this – from small kitchen gardens, pub gardens, fields, window-ledges and our indoor spaces.

I passionately feel that through landscape design, that is focused upon enhancing nature and encouraging human interaction with it, we can reconnect people and societies with each other and with nature.

What We Stand For

Mission Statement:

To Inspire truly beneficial ecological and environmental change, by reconnecting people to nature via their gardens.

Our Values:

  1. Customer Commitment: We develop relationships that make a positive difference in our customers’ lives.

  2. Quality: We provide outstanding design and unsurpassed, bespoke services that together deliver fantastic value to our customers, and to nature.

  3. Integrity: In a world where trust is at a premium we are dedicated to upholding the highest standards of integrity in all we do.

  4. Good Citizenship: We believe a community is made by the hearts of the individuals that embody it, that is why we are dedicated to being good citizens in all the communities in which we live and work. Sometimes businesses have a heart too.

  5. Good Stewardship: We believe that we only ever rent this world, and so it is our job to pass it on to the next generation in a better shape than when we found it.

Goals and Objectives:

  1. To create multifaceted environmentally friendly and aesthetically beautiful gardens that change the way people view nature and the environment and their place within it.

  2. To empower people and communities to take charge of both themselves and their families’ future by changing the way they see their gardens and the environment

  3. To inspire people to look after the environment and wildlife they have on their doorstep and in their community, and to cherish that which works and is good, and change that which is not.

  4. To change the colour of peoples, towns and communities spaces from grey deserts to ‘green’ oasis for themselves and for wildlife. No space is too big or too small. No challenge is insurmountable.

  5. To reconnect people and communities with nature and their place within it by creating ‘edible’ gardens rich with plants and trees that are beneficial to themselves and to wildlife, and create a rich haven and sanctuary to both.
