A Wilderness Garden

One of my favourite gardens to design and build. The property was a recently converted barn surrounded only by wild fields in the middle of beautiful Ravenstonedale. The clients were after a space that would suit the wilds of their surroundings whilst also providing a contemporary space to relax in the Summer with a G&T and a book. I designed and built a garden that reflected the remote and wild aspect of their surroundings. Plants were chosen for this purpose as well as being super hardy, drought and flood resistant, low maintenance and crucially rabbit resistant! Local peat free topsoil was used as well as our own wood mulch. The Slate clippings used in their previous garden was used as well as the plethora of stones left by the builders when they converted the barn. I designed and built a huge 'L' shaped seating area using local stones topped with a 200 year old oak that was felled in a storm a few years back. Oak dowels were made from the off cuts , to ensure a smooth and sustainable finish. It will be great to revisit this site later on in the Summer to see how the space has developed.
