This beauiful and contemporary garden bench is made from an over 200 year old sessile oak tree near Sedbergh that blew down in a storm in 2019. The steel legs were created by a local metal smith in the small village of Casterton, Cumbria. The solid oak top has been sympathetically hand planed and sanded and slightly concaved to ensure a natural feel and comfortable sitting.

It has been treated with danish wood oil and coated with natural engish beeswax, to both enhance the natural beauty of the grain and protect the wood from water and sun damage.

  • Although the oak board has been naturally dried for over two years to prevent warping and splitting. However wood is a natural product that is liable to movement and change over time, especially with fluctuations of temperature and moisture levels, this is completely natural and is part of the process of owning something that is not synthetic and man made.

There are things you can do to ensure the longevity of this product well into the decades. applying a small amount Danish wood oil once a year to the wood with a lint free cloth (or just any kitchen J-cloth) will ensure the wood retains its colour and protects the wood from water damage. Applying beeswax every quarterly to half year also helps conition the wood and acts as a barrier against moisture. We always recommend covering your benches with a weateher proof cover in wet weather and when youre not using it for long periods of time as this will help protect the wood long term so that it can last for generations.
