This stunning large charcuterie board is made from the trunk of a 100 year old Beech tree felled in a storm in 2017 near Kirkby Lonsdale, Cumbria. Also called Truffle Beech,  spalted Beech is a process, taking up to 3 years, by which certain fungi start growing on dead and fallen trees colonize the wood, travelling up through the wood cells and leaving behind a very unique and attractive pattern.

Fascinatingly the black lines are actually 'zone lines' created by different species of fungi which errect barriers around their territory, and defend them from neighbouring fungi.

It has been planed and sanded to a high degree, treated with Danish wood oil and coated with food grade English beeswax.

Dimensions 910mm x 340mm (at its widest) x 50mm

  • Wood is a natural material liable to splitting and cracking under extremes and/or fluctuations in temperature and moisture levels. It is therefore imperative that you take care of these boards by reading the following:

    1. DO NOT scrub the boards at all or clean them with harsh chemicals or non-organic wahsing up liquid.
    2. DO NOT soak them or put them in the dish washer (it has happened before)
    3. Clean your board by either wiping it down with a damp cloth or using a tiny drop of eco-friendly washing up liquid with said cloth
    4. Re-wax your board occassionaly with a natural food grade safe bees wax to protect against food and water damage and to keep the natural colours of the grain from fading
